Forgetting to Punch Time Clock

Forgetting to Punch Time Clock - 11/04/03 08:37 PM

We have a problem with our nonexempt employees. They frequently forget to punch the time clock. Does anyone have any solutions to this? (No, we don't want to fire them, "forget" to pay them, or threaten to chop their fingers off if they do it again!!) Any help will be appreciated.

Yeah, a simple solution: Get rid of the time clock. Don't these people report to a supervisor who monitors and manages their schedules, approves vacations, etc., etc. Our operations center once had a Simplex punch-card system, and when it was finally removed the morale and productivity most assuredly increased. Time clocks in banking-related operations, even for call centers, is the last remaining circa 1970's monitoring tool which basically says to employees: We don't care about you, or what you think, nor do we care if you care about us. Just punch the clock.

We tell all nonexempt persons that if they forget to punch in or out they have to get their supervisor to write in the time and initial it. Most of the time the supervisor taking the time to do this causes the employees to try to remember the next time. It also helps to avoid the people who claim to work longer hours than they actually did.

Check the Internet. There is software for telephone systems and computers that will act as time clocks.
