The bank would like to offer a free small box for one year or $25 off any other size to any customer who opens a checking account. If you already have a checking the offer would apply if you open another account. The other requirement to receive this offer is you must have subsequent years payments deducted from your checking account.

Can you require the future payments to be automatically deducted?

Yes, that is permissible, but make sure you get the customer to sign a written authorization for the payments and comply with Reg E, section 1005.10(b).
