First the McCain dinner, then this one and the Kennedy birthday bash last night. Maybe it's not more than Bush did socially. But with all the media coverage, it gets put front and center.

I'd really like to see my President eating a few more hot dogs like the 8.1% of unemployed in this country. A little less partying would go a long way to making me believe he really understands what's happening in the country outside of Washington. Just sayin'....

Wonder what they do with the left overs at the White House??? Maybe it should be donated to a food kitchen in the area.

Maybe not left-overs, or even a pot-luck. But weekly parties so they "remember we all laugh the same'? Seems incongruous with the 'everybody tightening their belts' notion he espouses to the Nation.

As for state dinners, seems to me visiting dignitaries could benefit from the publicity a smaller scale, lower keyed event could generate. Show the world that their leaders can walk the walk, not just talk the talk.

See...my point exactly. We, the little people, know how to laugh without saffron or truffle oil.

Truffle oil is actually really good on fries. Had it this weekend. Truffle shavings are good in mac and cheese. Also had this weekend.

We had lobster mac and gruyere cheese last week that absolutely kicked azz, and normally I hate mac and cheese.

I don't see anythign wrong with them getting together mroe often in situations that don't involve them butting heads--perhaps it will lead to better working relationships which will in turn result in more positive things being done for the country. I do agree they coudl do less formal events, but perhaps if they did, not everyone would show up?

Not meant as a personal attack here, Dip, but exactly how chummy do you think BO is going to get with a hundred odd guests? Other than each getting a chance to say, 'good evening, Mr. President' and shake his hand, he's going to be chatting with the same few people...or the one he wants to be seen with on tomorrow's news.

It's been a rough few days in my neck of the woods. Layoffs have hit a couple people I know. MOML and I have pretty much decided to stash the cash we just got out of a refi into our mattress rather than do the work around the house that needs to be done. I may throw something if I see BO at another black tie dinner. Is it his fault? No. Is it Bush's? No. It is what it is and it's time for him to SHOW US THROUGH HIS ACTIONS that he gets it.

I don't think it's all for Obama...it's for the benefit of the guests as well. They all have to interect either in the Senate or the House--I think the social free-time does do some good for those in attendance.

I think it woudl be cool if they organized a picnic, even a fancier one than we'd attend, with a softball game or something. Be American!
