We have had several CTRs returned lately for a name/EIN mismatch. After investigation, it turns out the customer used to operate their business under one name, but then changed the business name at a later date. The EIN of the business was not changed.
We have communicated this with the IRS-DCC, but the CTRs continue to be returned. We have been simply replying back to the IRS with a message explaining the name change. Am I missing something here or is there anything else we should do? The company has provided us with copies of the Amendment to their Articles of Incorporation (as well as copies of certificate that the amendment was filed with the state they are registered in). Is there a document I should request a copy of showing they filed a name change with the IRS??
