Currently have 2 situations...

1. Prior customer is writing checks on a closed account. Amounts were enough to justify SAR, plus I was filing SARs on him for money laundering as well. Police and DOJ investigating him.

2. 2005 customer had checkbook stolen. Closed account out. Now checks are starting to surface.

I would like to contact our states retail association, bankers association, etc to warn people of these checks. Is that something I should do, or am I going to get into some "privacy" or other problems...

On both counts we report to Efunds (Chexsystems), the first for fraud, the second that the account was closed due to stolen checks (so it does not reflect negatively on our customer.) In both cases, merchants that utilize check verification will be informed that the accounts are no good.
