Does anybody have a problem granting loans to a non-US citizen who has a green card? We had an issue in the past where the loan customer left the country and we didn't get paid, so it's been against our policy to loan or open accounts to non-US citizens. However, some loan officers are wanting us to change that. Thoughts?

Many banks do not lend to non-US residents who are here temporarily for that reason, outside of a well thought out program (such as lending to wealthy individuals who maintain homes in the US). Some banks will lend to temporary residents under a program set up with the individual's employer, sometimes with guarantees.

Those with a green card are permitted to be here permanently and usually those are treated like US citizens for this purpose.

I could leave and stick you with a loan just like they could so you need to be careful in eliminating a class of people for the sins of one or two.
