Hi All,

Where can I find information on dower rights in Ohio??? If a wife owns a property in her name but is married to a man, does the husband have a right to cancel the transaction?

My understanding is dower rights are not ownership rights. We would not give the husband the right to rescind the transaction.

I assume from your question that the wife had this property before the marriage. In which case, I don't believe the husband needs to release dower rights.

He does gain 1/3 % ownership rights in the appreciated value of the property from point of marriage.

Do a google for Ohio Dower Rights and you can find some good reading.
