I've had some fun the last few days talking to folks about choosing domain names. Andy mentioned back in the old days when he was looking for a domain name for his bank -- First National. firstnationalbank.com was long gone, as was firstnational.com. Lo and behold, fnbank.com was available! Say it real fast out loud and you'll understand WHY it's still available.

An institution named Peoples Exchange Bank owns the domain name peoplesexchangebank.com. Not surprisingly, they are not currently using it.

Anyone else have any good domain name stories?

Oh what a difference a space, an underscore or a "." can make.

Andy: Did you consider making a slight change to something like: greatfnbank?

Well, the good folks of Jonesboro Arkansas have an fn bank. See www.fnbank.net . And in Illinois you can deposit your cash into the fn credit union. See www.fncu.org .

"Great", ".net", ".org", I still don't want folks saying, in disgust, that they had an account at that "f-n" anything of mine! It is a lot easier to emphasize, "thats a numeric one, in one s t n b.com".

I kinda like the peoplesexchangebank address. But KYC could go to a whole new level.

Yes, but just think of the marketing opportunities:

FNBANK.com
Experience the FN difference in the privacy of your own home. (Clothes optional)

Not domain name related . . . but there was once a racehorse named "Hoof Hearted". Imagine the announcer calling "aaaand into the homestretch it's Hoof Hearted in the lead!" Dangerous position for number 2, eh?

How about the venerable law firm of Morrison & Foerster's site: mofo.com.

That's almost a generic name, judging from how some people refer to their lawyers.

What must that law firm have been thinking?!?
