In this day in age customers are hearing from all sources that they should check their credit reports to ensure they have not become a victim of identity theft. Consequently, some customers are actually listening to this advice....however, they are coming to us to get it.

Our contract with the CB does not prohibit us from providing a customer a copy of the their credit report, so long as it is in connection with a credit transaction....but I'm not sure about providing it to a customer just because they have a credit relationship with us. Any thoughts?

Refer them to the Credit Bureau. If there is a problem with the report you are going to have to refer them to the CB anyway. Plus you do not want to become a credit reporting agency by giving them a copy of the report.

There is more than one credit bureau. Each may have different information. I recommend you make up a little card with the names and how to contact these agencies. They are entitled to a free report which they can get by requesting it from each CB.
