It is real football as in NFL football. Just because you play soccer with your feet, and the French call it football doesn't mean that's right! You play baseball with your hands, should we call it handball?

Well, I play rugby, you know the game real guys play, the one without time outs or tv breaks between tackles, no pads, relpacments only if a cut requires 6 or more stitches, two halfs of 40 minutes each with a 10 minutes break at the end of the first 40 - you know that kinda game . I have a Soccer team on the ESPN fantasy league - that's way I asked that question!!

I'll give you rugby is a good sport, and it is similar to Football, but the guys who play it aren't 300 lbs running 5 second 40 yard dashes either...

I agree, but let me tell you that in rugby the "tight five" or the prop forwards are usually above 300 pounds and are required to run constant for 80 minutes - not just a one or two dashsers, a few high fives, a chicken dance here, an obsecene gester on the tv there.
Anyway, if you want to watch a good Rugby game, there is one on tomorrow at 3:00 am PT on FOX sports world (Direct TV) - It's between New Zealand and Australia, the two top teams in the world.
3:00 am ? coz it's live from Sydney, Aust.
I know, you can tivo it and watch a replay later.

I'll give you rugby is a good sport, and it is similar to Football, but the guys who play it aren't 300 lbs running 5 second 40 yard dashes either... Puhleeze, these guys aren't athletes. Real athletes don't have a 45 second break after every 4 seconds of play, don't have 6 timeouts per game, don't suck oxygen every time they leave the field. Real athletes also don't showboat by pulling out a cell phone or a marker when they score, don't trash talk the opponent, and certainly don't wear 20 pounds of padding. Remember the old "Battle fo the Superstars" competition from the late 70's and early 80's? Where sports put up their respective stars. I remember Kyle Rote Jr (soccer) kicking everyone's hiney 3 years in a row. No football guys could come close to his fitness level. That still is truye today, where a soccer player may run as much as 8-10 miles in a match, a football player may run about 300 yards. That being said, I'll sign up, but need to do it from home. I'm blocked on our firewall from accessing pornographic sights (yes, NFL is pornographic...at least to real footballers)

Sign me up. I've never done a fantasy football league before but have toyed with the idea for several years.

Draft will be an autopick draft since we have so many time zones here, and I seriously doubt we can get everyone to agree on one time. (Unless we all want to have "an important meeting" for lunch one day!) I will run it when everyone has signed up.. There are room for 12 total teams.
Michael, why don't you set up a live draft and then those that can make it come and those that don't will still be picked by auto-draft? Set up a poll with three possible draft date/times and let everyone vote. Then pick the date/time that got the highest vote count and have that as the scheduled live draft. Any managers that can't participate live will have their team auto-picked.
Well we could try doing it on a weekend... I'll set up a poll when we get at least 10 managers signed up!

I'm in, but I doubt I'd do a live draft. Doesn't that take hours?

It depends on how quick people are. Usually it takes an hour or so. You can always leave after the first few rounds and let the computer finish for you too.
Ok we are at 11 coaches, we need one more!

I think I would prefer the auto draft. I've used it many times and it works well. You just need to make sure you go in and rank your players before the draft or you may end up with someone who you don't want.
Also, with only 12 teams, there will be several people that you can pick up later. I've played with 20. You just had to hope your guys stayed healthy, because there was no one to pick up later.

I would never want to play with more than 12 teams. To me, half the fun is rushing to pick up a guy after you see someone else get injured and knowing you are getting a new starter, or guessing at who *might* have a huge year after seeing him in a couple games. Sleepers are fun!
By the way, I DID leave two extra slots over the normal bench for everyone. Since Michael Vick screwed me last year and I couldn't do anything about him taking up a slot all year, I want people to be able to have depth.

OK, I'm alright with the auto-draft if that's what the more experienced players seem to think would work best.

What is the best way to get informed on how to rank players. I was just planning to leave the Yahoo rankings intact. Is that a mistake?

I've done that before and it works pretty good. However, there may be someone that you really want to have or can't stand. You may want to move them up or out to increase your chances of getting the team you want. Also, the rankings are based on last years performance. There may be some guys who had outstanding seasons last year that will not have as good of a season this year. (New QB, New Coach, etc.) So you may want to downgrade some of them.
I guess it just depends on how active you want to be in picking your team.

Yahoo is pretty good. But make sure none of the guys you know are not going to have a good season aren't too highly ranked. Also, if you think someone is going to have a better year than projected just move him up some.

You can start your ranking right now. Make sure you have all those Bears players ranked up high now... They are going to be powerhouses this year, just like the Cubs right?

I agree with EdOils, nothing worse than taking a player early and hearing they were injured during the pre-season.

That's what I was thinking. Also it gives you a chance to see some of the "sleepers" and maybe get a jump on them. I'm willing to do whatever y'all want to do, though.

Everytime I look at this league, I am playing a different team for the first game of the season. Now, I have to start practice all over again preparing for another team.

Now that we've drafted, are you going to bump up the start date to week 1, or are you going to keep it at week 2?

Well, I WAS going to bump it back but it won't let me once they have drafted... Go figure. If I had left it for week one it wouldn't have drafted until friday or saturday...

This is me - I actually thought when I finished seventh that my season was over (thought they only took the top six - that was my other league, though. )
Unfortunately, had I known I was still in the playoffs, I could have replaced one of the three starters who didn't play the final week, but I didn't.
Congrats to Z, whose thirst for victory is admirable, especially considering we had no money on the line!!!

It was a lot of fun - we'll have to do it again next year. Interesting to see how competitive we are in a virtual league with no money at stake - only bragging rights

The standings are after the playoffs so a team's final win/loss record does not have anything to do with where they are in the above list.
...which is why my Isotopes finished 9th at 10-6 instead of 6th. I missed the playoffs by a hair, but won out in the consolation tournament. (Oddly enough, I don't feel consoled.)
I was really surprised to see how the final week of the regular season played out. I was certain that Waste Not would lose sending you to the playoff. You and CCP got very hot at the end. Those who did not play would be surprised to know which teams were at the top for most of the season. It was not the same as those who ended up at the top. I spent most of the regular season stuck at #8 and finished the regular season at #5. Injuries struck just about every team. Picking up Larry Johnson and Droughns and getting Moss back from injury were my saving graces.

I cannot believe how poorly my team performed in the final game. When I saw how many starters you had that would not play, I thought I'd win in a walk no matter who you played or which Free Agents you picked up. I have to admit surprise that you did not replace Portis and Westbrook. Starting Fisher would have won it for you.
All of my players (and my kicker and defense) except Larry Johnson (and to a lesser degree Moss and D. Jackson) failed to play even their average games in the championship game. Who would have thought that I should have started R. Wayne instead of Burleson and McAllister instead of Droughns? If I had, there wouldn't be this cloud over my crown!

I just looked at your scores in the playoffs. If Waste Not had lost his last regular season game to CubDave, you'd have gotten the #8 seed in the playoffs (and CCP and DaCommish would have been 6th and 7th), you would have won over CubDave in the first round when you scored 91.82, but would have lost to me in the second round when you scored 57.55. Then you would have then lost to Bayou Boys and ended up 4th. I would have played Primetimers instead of CCP in the final and won. (CCP would have lost in the first round.)

OK, I'll agree - you're addicted! And I'm still not consoled.
But thanks for checking that out - it's pretty interesting stuff. All in all it was a fun experience, and you can sign me up again next season.
(By the way, congratulations!)

Get me gumbo (hold the poultry) instead of beer and I'll sign myself in!

Let's see, I go into your rehab center a Texan addicted to Fantasy Football and come out a Cajun addicted to beer and crawfish. Let me think about it.

I talked to Da Boys, and he can work that out. We've got more than chicken and sausage gumbo. How about seafood or maybe okra? Since you aren't a beer drinker, we can also hook you up with a "Tub o'Tea". Yep, it's cold and sweet, like God intendend.

Well, we've gone off-subject, but if you really want to order some, I can try to find you someplace that sells it. I know they sell a lot of it to Asian countries, but I don't know of anyone around here who actually eats it. I also don't know anyone who traps it, but it is a big industry. The state is trying to convince us that it is good eatin', but I dunno about that. They are paying $3 a tail for each one trapped. All I know is that they are some big ol' ugly SOB's that have scared the heck out of me more than once. They are anywhere you can find a body of water. Ugggh!
BTW, did you notice that the State of LA - Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries is the owner of the site?

Oh yeah! I remember you: One week mid-season, because almost your entire roster had byes, you left a RB position open and lost by 5 or 6 points to Hogs? Of course, I'm not sure you could have picked up an RB who would've scored 6 points that week. But one more win and you'd have been tied for 1st in the regular season.
If you were primetimers, then who was hogs?
