In most cases, customers are offended by the way the bank employee asks the question. Employees often make the customer feel like they have committed a crime when they conduct a reportable transaction.

Simply saying "Mr. Smith, the IRS requires us to fill out a Currency Transaction Report for transaction over $10,000 in cash. I'm going to have to ask you a few questions to prepare the form correctly. Is that okay?"

Getting the customer's buy in to proceed often helps the process go smoother.

We were criticized for using the term "unemployed". I don't think the subject ever held a job. He lived off his various relatives. We used the term unemployed for a CTR when he cashed a beneficiary check for some miscellaneous relative's trust when it paid out on the grantor's death. They wanted to know unemployed from what field but "life" didn't seem the right answer either.

Where the heart is
How about "professional leach?" or "Trust-Fund Wannabe?" or "Shiftless Bum?" Or how about "HAC" (Hasn't A Clue!")

Sorry but picayune crud like this is another indication these exams are way out of hand. A bank expends precious resources figuring out how to classify something like this, meanwhile more serious matters may go unattended.

Heaven in comparison to my pri...
Forgive me for laughing, but I misread Bonnie's "Shiftless Bum" with the "f".

Do you abbreviate Box 13? Construction Equip or Restuarant Supp as an example.
