How long to lenders have in New Jersey to get a Satisfaction of mortgage out after a payoff? I was just told that they won't get it out for at least another 4 weeks and I paid it off over 2 months ago.

Under state law, the lender must submit the mortgage to the county recording officer for cancellation of record within thirty days of the payment in full of all sums due under the mortgage. As to how long the county recorder has to cancel the mortgage of record and return it to the lender, I am unaware of any statutory requirement.

Don't they normally just send it back whenever they get to it?
