Ya'll know how much time I put into my duct tape costume by now. This year though...I'm stumped!

Last year's theme was "under the sea" so my entire table of 10 went as dead (frozen) bodies from the Titanic (floating under the sea) :) A huge hit and a prize winner again, my fifth year running.

This year is "Midnight at the Oasis". I need an obscure, but easily identifiable (is that possible) group costume idea. Nothing obvious...we will have 20,000 harem girls and gennies I'd guess, so...what??? HELP!!!! :D

dreaming of a warm beach......
Midnight at the oasis
Send your camel to bed
Got shadows painting our faces
Traces of romance in our heads

Heaven's holding a half moon
Shining just for us
Let's slip off to a sand dune real soon
Kick up a little dust

Come on the cactus is our friend
He'll point out the way
Come on 'till the evening ends
'till the evening ends

You don't have to answer
There's no need to speak
I'll be your belly dancer
Prancer and you can be my sheik

I know your daddy's a sultan
A nomad known to all
With fifty girls to attend him
They all send him
Jump at his beck and call

But you won't need no harem
honey
When I am by your side
And you won't need no camel
No no when I take you for a ride

Come on the cactus is our friend
He'll point out the way
Come on 'till the evening ends
'till the evening ends

Midnight at the oasis
Send your camel to bed
Got shadows painting our faces
Traces of romance in our heads

Oh, come on (repeat)

Maybe something out of the song will help. Camels, dunes, belly dancer, cactus, etc. Make the whole song your theme.

How about dressing as different vegetation that would grow around an oasis? Not very exciting, but could be very unique with cacti, palm trees, flowering plants, etc.

Dawnie,
Palm Trees are easy too make. Brown grocery bags and real palms leaves are green construction or poster board.
The idea of following the song sounds good. Have fun!!

Anon you can only use duct tape (but it comes in green and brown)

I love the pointing cactus too! I see cactus with road signes in my figure. The queen rocks! (the snowqueen that is)

What if you each go as one thing in the song? The farther down the list, the more obscure the thing would be.

Hmmmm...I don't know that song. It must not be disco!

If it's midnight, there would be stars out so maybe your group could go as a constellation with each person dressing as a star. I'm thinking that could be accomplished with white, gold, or silver duct tape possibly. Maybe you could bend coat hangers to make the star structure? You could spray your hair silver and wear silver make up. One person could be the half moon that is mentioned in the song.

Other things that come to mind - sheiks, snakes and snake charmers, king tut. Our bank did a skit once to the song "Walk Like an Egyptian". You could make gold collars and black and gold head pieces.

Hope you win!

Dawnie is looking for something creative and new... Everyone who goes to the duct tape ball is a LITTLE nuts!

Dawnie - since Midnight at the Oasis refers to a desert how about going as Oil Workers with derricks etc., or maybe something from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom or maybe even Laura Kroft & the Tomb Raiders. I am sure your imagination could morph these into something fun. Good Luck!
