Just a tip in case anyone ever needs to translate something simple. If you go to the Google homepage and click on language tools you can enter a word or phrase and translate it to or from english to a number of languages.

Well and a lot of that is going to be literal, word for word translations, whereas someone who knows the language can give you a more colloquial translation which is more common usage or slang.

My sentiments exactly ExGovtBabe. Translating foreign languages is difficult because there is a lot of nuance. Sometimes, translating is much like writing, because you can't translate literally. You have to get a feel for what the words mean in order to accurately impart them to a reader.

That's ok, I just wanted to be able to write down numbers and pounds so I could hold it up and point at the sausage I want the next time I go to the polish neighborhood in Chicago!

I realize that the Google tool is no match for someone who knows the language, but I have used it in a pinch with some success in the past. You never know when you may need to translate some French on a Thursday night when EGB may be otherwise occupied!

Michael - All of the little Polish ladies should be happy to help you at any market you go to, just as they are here in Buffalo. I just found out that my family's favorite sausage stand at our beloved Broadway Market (a Western NY landmark if ever there was)has closed, since management feels that there is too much competition among the sausage stands! Ask for the dark smoked garlic kielbasa and send some my way, please!!!

Actually 4 out of 5 times I have found a little old Polish lady to help me. But the fact is, the market I go to, most of the customers don't even speak english! Oh sure, I can go two doors down to a place with no line (instead of waiting half an hour minimum) where they speak english, but it isn't as good!

I love the dark garlic kielbasa! Even better are the beef sausage sticks!
