Wow, I wonder where this money goes? To pay the welfare of all the people who do not invoke their "right to work"? Might as well just eliminate it and raise the income tax appropriately to compensate.
Seems kinda dumb to me!

That's strange. I know when I worked in MA but lived in CT, I had to pay income tax to 2 states (but got to offset a portion of one against the other for a credit.) It was hard to figure it all out.
The only thing I know about the right-to-work stuff is that TX is a right to work state and therefore unions are not allowed (except where allowed by federal law.) But I don't think we pay this tax, I've never heard about it.

I am also from PA and in my part of the state it is called the "Privledge To Work Tax". The $10 is collected and sent to our local (municipal) tax collector. If you move from one borough or township to another during the year you either have to pay it again or have the tax collectors pro- rate it and figure it out. I think there should be a privledge not to work tax myself........

My son had paid this tax 3 times one year becasue he changed jobs 3 times. It i automatically taken out of your first pay with a new company. You have to remember to let you new employer know if you have already paid this tax and provide proof that you did so.

I live in PA as well and have seen the article on raising it to $52.00 per year. We must live in the same area. I still have not figured out all the taxing authorities since moving here from Texas 5 years ago. I'm still trying to convince my wife to move back.

Here is Kansas City Missouri- If you live or work in Kansas City you are required to pay a 1% earnings tax. For those of us that don't live in KCMO - we are sucking eggs. Such is life.

I hear that they are thinking about invoking a similar tax in California. I think it will be called the commuter tax. Supposedly the funds are to be used in the development and refurbuishment of California's highways. There are several rumors out there about how they are going to ascertain who gets taxed what amount. One of the methods proposed is to tax commuters per mile that they drive to work. I don't know about other states but here in CA, we drive a lot of miles. For numerous reasons, this plan will not work but I am curious to see what my Governator plans to do about this.

Too much government interference in my personal life, if you ask me. That will NEVER fly here in California. Guaranteed!

I agree! SC may be viewed by many as a backward state, but I don't think that would fly in good ole'SC. Of course, I guess a tax by any other name is still a tax. In our county we have a $15.00 yearly bridge and road tax!

I have lived in CA all my life. I still guarantee that this legislature would not have passed...hence the recall.
I love that you called him Gumby! That was funny!!

Have you lived in California long? If it hadnt been for the recall, Gray "Gumby" Davis and the socialist legislature would have passed that a long time ago.
