I love Carrabbas. I take my girlfriend there a good bit. That place is hard to beat but it is overpriced. But still good...and they give you a ton of food. Other people I have met dont like it. I dont get the pasta or anything...i get the Pollo Rosa Maria or the Chicken Marsala. those are great

I have never heard of those two restaurants.

My favorite is IHOP. I love eggs, bacon and sausage to go with my pancakes!

We have some great chain restaurants here: PF Changs, Claim Jumper, Outback, Macaroni Grill (they sing opera to you there), and of course the staples like TGI Fridays, Chilis and Applebees. (Actually we just started getting Applebees within the last few years).

Carrabba's is upscale Italian. P.F. Chang's is oriental fusion cuisine. I have seen Carraba's in smaller towns, but Changs is a mostly upscale suburban phenomenon.

My favorite chain is Romano's Macaroni Grill - great bread, who needs appetizers? Another favorite is Charleston's. Fantastic spinach/artichoke dip and chicken tenders and lots of fresh fish daily.

My family loves the Old Country Buffet, unfortunately the nearest one is 2 1/2 hours away. We also like the Prime Sirloin Buffet which is similar but only an hour away. Buffets are best for our family since everyone seems to like something different and agreeing on where we want to eat is sometimes difficult.

For Prime Rib you can't beat Lawry's. I don't know if that counts as a chain because I only know of two locations. It is the same company as the seasoning salt but don't be misled by the inexpensiveness of the salt. You pretty much need to take out a second mortgage on your house to eat there.

How funny to have a restaurant named California Dreaming. I am here in California, and can't imagine that we have food good enough to name a restaurant after! Hahaha!

Ever try Fogo di Chao in Texas? The food is as good as the ambiance and it is all you can eat. Served by waiters dressed as gauchos.

Mortons a little too pricey to be that good. $50.00 and up for a steak (a la carte, all sides are extra) is ridiculous.

Ew, I hate Olive Garden & Outback!! Icky mediocre food.

PF Chang's is good (as is their lower priced faster paced sister, Pei Wei.) I always get the honey chicken myself. And the lettuce wraps of course. (They are owned by the Brinker Chain - same as Chili's and Corner Bakery and a bunch of others.)

I don't think Fogo di Chao is a chain, though, although I'm not sure. It's a chiarrascuria - Brazilian, all meat all the time. And actually there's a better one (IMHO) in Dallas - Texas de Brazil. Meat on a stick, mmmm. AND they have fried plantains and great cheese biscuits on the table at all times.

I think my favorite chain is the Pappas lines - Pappadeaux, in particular, but I also like Pappacitos and the Pappas Steak House.

Joe's Crab Shack is fun too, esp when I was pg - they make GREAT Key Lime pie.

Cheddars is good for inexpensive all-American food - they do a great burger and their CFS is very good, I'm told.

Oh, and Cafe Brazil for brunch!!! They're wonderful.

We both like Carrabbas. She likes Lone Star but only for Lunch. I detest Olive Garden.
Growing up in an Italian/German neighborhood with an Italian Mom, I have to tell you what they are selling ISN'T Italian food.

I love Fogo di Chao. There is one in Dallas and one in Chicago that I know of. Fabulous food, especially if your trying to do Atkins.

How about Fast food joints? Anybody ever been to a FATBURGER? Best burger I ever had.

Went to Olive Garden once, will never go back, I agree that they don't sell Italian food, don't understand what's to like. Had decent meals at Chilis and Appelbees, but don't go to chains very often. Last time at Chilis probably 5 years ago.

I guess my favorite would be Applebees. Love the food and the Perfect Margaritas!!! Only been to Olive Garden once and in no hurry to go back. Pasta with sauce.... hmmm.... creamettes and ragu. Timberlodge has too big of helping. TGI Fridays is good. PF Chang is great but they don't have any close to us. Haven't tried Outback.

Is Maggiano's Little Italy a chain? Excellent.
Someone mentioned Corner Bakery, one of my favorite breakfast nooks.

For Fast Food or Semi-Fast Food:

Z Pizza
Daphne's Greek Cafe
In & Out Burger
The original Tommy's
Togos (Subway blows)
La Salsa (similar to Rubio's except the food is good)

I love the soup and salad at Olive Garden, but the meals are pretty bad other than that. I agree it isn't really Italian cooking, it's ItalianLIKE cooking.

Changs is good, but there are so many Asian restaurants that are better and cheaper individual restaurants I never go there.

My favorite chain currently is CiCi's Pizza... All you can eat pizza (not the best but not bad either) with a drink for $5.

Yes, it is - although there aren't very many of them. I have a good friend who works for Brinker (the company that owns Maggianos, Chili's, Macaroni Grill, Carino's, Cozymel's, etc.). She took me to the Maggiano's in Dallas when I was there for a meeting - it's now my favorite place to eat!

I try to not pass up an opportunity to eat at a Cheesecake Factory either, but the closest one is 6 hours away!

ExGovtBabe: There is another place in Dallas that is on my favorites list. THE TRAILDUST! Not exactly top shelf, but the food is good and resonable and I have always had a good time there. I like Pappadeaux as well, but if I want a really good cajun meal I go to Cafe Margaux (spelling) It's not to far from Pappadeaux if I remember, but I do remember the food was outstanding.
I never heard of Texas de Brazil, but I'll be looking for it on my next trip to the big D. I get down there about every other year.

I'm with your wife! The only time I've darkened their door since that ad campaign was at an airport - I had no choice, if I wanted something to drink, I had to buy it at Quizno's. I didn't eat anything there, though!

Carino's is good. It's kinda between Olive Garden and Macaroni Grill. Their bread soup is awesome! Olive Garden's breadsticks kinda pale in comparison to their hot Italian bread, too!

For what Quiznos charges, you would expect their sandwiches to be better. I'd rather buy a Togo's sandwich and toast it if I want the Quiznos experience.

I guess my favorite places to eat would be Ryans,Gormet Buffet (a chinese resturant with a huge buffet),TGIFridays, Applebees, and then probably for a quick high calorie meal good ole McDonalds. I love their Chicken Selects.

Going back to childhood, I loved Casa Bonita in Denver. The food isn't phenomenal, but some of my great childhood memories were spent at Black Bart's Cave and watching the "cliff divers" while eating as many sopapillas as I could.

Nowadays, I love the Longhorn Steakhouse. My favorite chicken joint, hands down, is Popeye's. They have the best chicken and the best sides. Quizno's is very good, but pretty spendy for what you get....still enjoy it, though.

Are you serious? Does this place really exist???
Casa Bonita was in one of the main story lines on a South Park episode I saw a couple months ago. I thought they, of course, made it all up. That's pretty funny that it really exists.

RE: Maggiano's: Won't eat there because one of the asst mgrs at NorthPark (Dallas) was extremely rude to me at a Jr. League function.

RE: Johnny Carino's: the food is pretty good but the service (N TX) was terrible so I haven't been back.

RE: TrailDust - keep meaning to try this, will have to make more of an effort in 2005.

You'd think people in the service business would be able to equate their behavior with whether people come to their business or not! Always amazes me.

What is a Cracker Barrel? I have friends that rave about it but have never seen one. What kind of food is it?

Golden Corral is pretty good. I don't know if it is a chain, but I know it is good.

OMG!!! I love Casa Bonita! I don't live in Colorado, but I have relatives who do and everytime we visit we go there. I'm surprised someone else likes it as much as I do. I have some childhood memories from there as well. I love the cliff divers, too!

Yes, yes they are. I'm not sure what the point is - but I think McD's meets the chain definition

Is that you, Lauren? J/K.

Mark, it exists and when I was a kid, someone told me that there were 6 of them nationwide and that one was in KC. I don't know for sure.

Cracker Barrell is "bus tour" food. You see them up and down the East Coast...anywhere tour busses might stop. They just opened one in Massachusetts next to an Outlet Mall. Big tour bus stop!!!

Country cookin' is what I call Cracker Barrel. It's kind of fun for a change of pace. Waitresses still call you honey. You can get a plate with macaroni & cheese, biscuits & collard greens. Service is awfully slow though.

I like Chipotle too.

So, Cracker Barrel is like mass produced southern grandma food. Interesting.

Cracker Barrel has the best breakfasts! Love the Country Sampler! Even copied the recipe for Hash Brown Casserole out of a Cracker Barrel Cookbook in the country store. It's a favorite of ours. We have CB in OKC and Norman.

Casa Bonita was a favorite when I was in High School. We loved putting up the little flag for them to bring us more food. There was one in OKC.

I had no idea that Casa Bonita was a chain. I thought we had the one and only.

I love Chipotle too. I thought McDonalds was only a minority shareholder, but maybe they subsequently bought out the whole thing.

The closest Cracker Barrel is 120 miles away in Amarillo. Once in awhile, some friends and I just have to drive up there to eat. People think we're crazy - but it's good food! And fun!!

I used to love Boston Market, it's the closest thing to a home-cooked meal in a hurry. When I feel like totally pigging-out, it's the buffet at Ponderosa (especially for breakfast).

Carino's is my favorite restaurant...I have eaten in several different cities and the service and food are consistently above average. Try the chicken scallopinni or sizzellinni, which is like italian fajitas...

Hmm..I am hungry now!
