Think they'll get a lot of applicants?

I'll tell you what? If I didn't have to work from DC, I would seriously consider it.

Ditto. I keep thinking that if I don't get more cooperation here, I'm going to the Dark Side to become an examiner.

Don't knock it, the bene's are GREAT. If my agency had not destabilized so rapidly, I'd still be there. (Talk to my old coworkers periodically, it's not improving over there. AND they're all on the road working by themselves all the time. Poor babies...... They should have jumped when I did.)

You laugh, but I intend to apply! Maybe a "type A" personality will be appreciated there!

Where the heart is
Initially I thought FinCEN would be examining MSB's for BSA/AML compliance. But after reviewing the job descriptions, it appears that FinCEN is hiring examiners to examine the exams that the regulators conduct on banks.

I think the rough road has only just started.

I actually live less than 18 miles from DC, and commuting via metro is no big deal. HOWEVER, when I looked at the job posting, resumes have to be sent to Vienna VA. Does that mean that FinCEN is located in Vienna? I'd have no problem going to DC, but VA - especially Vienna, is a horrible commute from Maryland! Does anyone know exactly where FinCEN's offices are located?

The Compliance Program Manager position states: "The office is located in a modern commercial building in Northwest Washington, DC."

I doubt I would be qualified for that job! (they want either a PhD or the equivalent of a PhD) I was looking at some of the "lesser" compliance positions - I am just two classes shy of my BS/Paralegal certification and won't have my degree until December.

What job are you looking at - I see no collage degree required at all for the Compliance Program Manager position, unless I totally missed it

Under the compliance specialist position, it states:
Substitution of Education: At the GS-9 level, a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of
progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. At the GS-11 level
a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education
leading to such a degree or LL.M.

That just means you can substitute the experience requirements with education, not that it is the minimum education requirement. I don't think you will find too many PhDs at a GS-11 working for $75,000 in D.C..

Will not apply; have family that likes to see me. Fed govt. benefits are second to none (former examiner).

Could be a good opportunity for a 3-5 year stint and then becoming a "consultant".

Best of luck to all applicants!
