I have a commercial customer who's corpoarate information for IRS purposes uses initials (i.e. ABC iNC - Any Big Company, Inc.). When we file a CTR using ABC Inc. FINCEN returns this CTR; however, if we list Any Big Company Inc. it does not get returned. Is anyone aware of rules against using initials when this is how the company is registered with the IRS?
Thanks!

When you say this is how they are registered, it does become perplexing..generally you should handle the name exactly as their TIN is listed.

Why would the name the company uses for IRS purposes be different than their offical incorporated name??? Are you sure you have this right and they don't operate under a dba?

You can ask to see the top section of any preprinted form the company receives from the IRS -- a 941, corporate tax return, withheld tax deposit coupons. It will carry the name and TIN just as they are carried on the IRS's books.
