I am looking for the acceptable and non-acceptable occupation/business listings required for box 13 on the CTR. Recently during an BSA review the Bank was sited for using "retired" as an occupation/business in box 13. I have only receive back from FinCEN if an ocupation is missing.

The instructions say:
Item 13. Occupation, Profession, or Business.
Identify the occupation, profession, or business of the person on whose behalf the transaction was conducted. For
example: secretary, shoe salesman, carpenter, attorney,
housewife, restaurant, liquor store,etc.
Do not use non-specific terms such as merchant, self-employed,businessman, etc.

Examiners have always asked that Retired not be used alone.
They consider it to be non-specific, per the instructions.

It should say for example, Retired Bank Examiner.
Even with Unemployed, they ask for the usual occupation, such as Unemployed Bank Examiner.
