From the MS Word template:

Memo
To: [Click here and type name]
From: [Click here and type name]
CC: [Click here and type name]
Date: July 14, 2005
Re: [Click here and type subject]
How to Use This Memo Template
Select the text you would like to replace, and type your memo. Use styles such as Heading 1-3 and Body Text from the Styles and Formatting work pane from the Format menu. To save changes to this template for future use, choose Save As from the File menu. In the Save As Type box, choose Document Template. Next time you want to use it, choose New from the File menu, select General Templates from the work pane, and then double-click your template.

I was always under the impression that it went as follows:
Date
To
Body
From
CC

I took a contemporary business writing course and according to the text, "Essential of Business Communication" 5th Edition by Mary Ellen Guffey, a memo should be formatted this way:

Leave a 2" margin at the top.
Set side margins at 1 to 1 1/4"
Leave a blank line between the heading guide words
Align the information following the headings
Leave two blank lines between the Subject and the first line of the memo
Single space with in the memo and double space bewtween paragraphs.

SUBJECT: Memo Formatting

Note that cc is outdated and no longer used in contemporary writing.

The A,F,D and M in the headings were aligned under each other. Apparently when I sent the reply, this system changed what I had entered.

I agree with the last poster. The cc's traditionally go at the bottom. As does "Enc." for enclosures.

For all letters I would put C at the bottom (not Cc) but for all memo's I agree with the majority of the posters, those go right on top below the "to and from" sections.

I agree with Dawnie. I no longer use Cc. It meant "carbon copy" back in the olden days. "C" (copy) is the new Cc.

It is not uncommon to see xc: (xerox copy) up here in the northeast.

Our marketing guy uses "pc" instead of "cc" for "paper copy"...

I think it should be changed to: ICOOD

Identical Copy of Original Document

On memos it all goes at the top. On letters it goes at the bottom. My major in college was Business Education - gee, too bad there weren't any teaching jobs open where I needed to live! Instead I ended up in banking and compliance!
