I am in need of Reg CC clarification. Say a bank branch located in Fed District 5 accepts for deposit a check bearing a routing number also in Fed District 5. However, that branch uses the District's 6 processing center (logistic/cost reasons). Can the depositary bank use a local hold, nonlocal hold, or both? Where can I find that designation?

Kathy,
Let's assume the branch taking the deposit is assigned to the Atlanta check processing region, and the check is drawn on a bank in Charlotte (0530, I think). That would make the check non-local.

Yep, I get the different district/nonlocal concept. BUT... what if the depositary branch were ASSIGNED to Philadelphia, but USING Cleveland... What would be local? What would be nonlocal? (That's the part I don't understand.) Thanks!

Pulling people out of the ditc...
Doesn't matter where you choose to process your items, Reg CC says it is based off of where the item is drawn. You are in 0510, other bank is 0510. You can process your items in Anchorage Alaska if you like, but it is still a local item per Reg CC.
