We have a couple accounts that we need to close because they have had continuous suspicious account activity. Does anyone have a letter they could share with us that they use for closing accounts such as these?

This is what we use:

(Bank name) has elected to terminate the Deposit Account Agreement and close the following account, effective as of the close of Bank business on this date: [DATE HERE]

Checking Account No. XXXXXXXX for the
Account Holder known as: XXXXXXXXXX

It is imperative that you: (a) not issue any checks against this account after the date on which this account is closed. All such checks will be marked "Account Closed" and returned, unpaid. You must also (b) not attempt to make any deposits into this account. Any such deposit attempts will be refused and rejected.

Checks drawn against this account prior to this date will be governed by the terms and conditions of the (bank name) Deposit Account Agreement and Disclosure. Enclosed is Cashier's Check No. XXXXXXXXX from (bank name), which represents the collected funds in this account, at the time this account was closed. The check is made payable to the named Account Holder.

Any checks issued against this account prior to this "close" date that are presented to (bank name) after the "close" date will not be processed but will be returned to the presenter, marked "Refer To Maker."
