Are there any branching issues with opening deposit accounts using a laptop. (the employee would go to the location and have to take money or a check to open the account) Seems like I read something on this years ago, but can't find it now.

Depending on the type of bank that you are, it may be considered a mobile branch and you would have to get the requisite regulatory approvals.

Taking the deposit is a real trigger. The Chicago FDIC recently sent out a bulletin about this exact topic.. It is a mobile - unauthorized - branch when it is done without regulatory approval.

You should review your definitions of a branch and see what you can do on-site, and then have them, as an example, mail in the deposit.
