We are in the the process of rolling out remote deposit capture. We are defining our customer acceptance process and are trying to develop deposit limits. Is anyone willing to share what your financial institution used to establish deposit limits and why you chose what you did?

we are in the development stage, so we have not set limits. Of course, my response to this is always "if the customer walked in with any amount, we would let them deposit it, so why not for a remote deposit?" The dumbfounded looks I get back are priceless

The only reason to limit this process is because of the incremental risk it poses. Captured documents have been known to pop up as being paid in both formats (image and original or SC and original), so you need to be confident of your customer and its security (and honesty). If you're reconverting images to SC's to process some or all of the items, you're putting a Check 21 warranty that involves the adequacy of the image. That's more risk.

All customers that we convert will be existing customers, run through the same credit-risk profile that we use for ACH originators, and will have a LOC that we can draw against in case they get silly. I think we have the processes in place...

We do not use limits to accept/reject items. We do, however, use limits to trigger closer scruitiny of the item.
