If we incorrectly cashed a check (the check was for $2000 and our teller cashed it for $8000) for a non customer but our customer endorsed the back of the check along with the noncustomer do we have the right to take the difference of $6000 from our customer? To complicate this more our customer is saying the non customer only got $2000.

Why would the customer endorse his own check - to what purpose?

Pulling people out of the ditc...
Sounds like the bank cashed a check for a non-customer who came in with a customer, but it sounds like the check was not drawn on your customer's account. Is that correct? Just that your customer endorsed the check, so the non-customer could cash it?

Not sure I have enough info to give a good answer on this one...

Also, do you have them on film getting the extra $6,000? You are going to need a little more than the teller saying "i'm sure I gave him 8 instead of 2." to make this stick in the long run.
