Does anyone have a bail bond company as a customer and if so how have you ranked them, high, medium or low? I would also be intereted in your thoughts as we now have one and I'm not sure how to rate this company.

I think I would put them as High Risk until I get a feel for the activity.
I imagine they would take cash only from a lot of their clients.
They could also have wire activity.

Quick question about bail bondsmen, since I haven't really seen any of them until now.

Do they typically work for themselves? We have an account for a bail bondsman, which is a personal account. Based on the activity it's very obvious what he does for a living, but I'm not sure if he should have a business account or not.

if he is a registered bail bondsman then he should be registered with the state licensing board, which, in my opinion, means he is a business and should have that type of account.

Banks can't claim much in the way of a due diligence effort if they let a customer put business activity through a personal account...

If it makes a difference, he works for a bail bonds company, but he doesn't own it. He deposits cash and checks as part of what he does, then writes checks to the bail bonds business.

This is all a State law issue. I work for a bank, customers make loan payments to me and then I write a check to the bank.

Sound OK to you??? Who are the checks made payable too???

It sounds like he is collecting monies/cash for the business in the course of his duties and has to deposit it and write a check to the company.
Are the checks payable to him personally?

It's still business-related and should be transacted through a business account.

I can understand if people pay him in cash and he has to get that cash to his company (and the company is not in the area), then he has to deposit the cash and write a check to his company.
With the checks payable to him personally, I think I would have a conversation with him and ask him why they are not payable to the business, and that way he can simply mail them to the company.
If he is just an employee you cannot ask him to open a business account because he does not have a business.

It really comes down to something smells and if you cannot identify the source, it is best to just throw the whole catch overboard.
