We had a customer give us a letter that they received from a BP Gas Station stating that the bank controls the dollar amount of the hold and time frame of the hold placed on our customers account. Typically the hold is $50-$100 and 3-5 day long.

I know we can place the time frame, but if I'm correct not the amount.

Isn't the amount controlled by the gas station?

The auth request originating at the gas station includes the amount. I thought a typical gas auth was $1.00, has this changed?

Normally it's a dollar. We are starting to see here that some (such as BP) are pre-authing higher.

I'm just flabbergasted at the letter they gave our customer placing all blame on the banks.

Thanks for you reply.
