Welcome, fellow Geeks!
Some of us on the BOL team are tech toy nuts! We don't just like cool gadgets, we get all a-tingle about them. Anything that provides a way for us to do something faster, easier, better -- or even in a manner that is more fun -- is tops in our book!
We're the early adopters. Palm? Got my first one in November, 1996. Digital cameras? I'm on my sixth one at this point. GPS? George has been using his for three years. And don't even get George or me started on the subject of Replay TV and/or TIVO. Watching tv in a hotel is a painful experience without an instant replay button or quick skip for commercials, much less the great tv guide interface.
Forget eating out at restaurants and other pursuits. I'm spending my money on gadgets!
So, since we love them, we want to tell you about them. Consider us your test lab!
These days, what we're buzzing about are our color Blackberry units. These powerhouses combine a cellphone, wireless email, wireless web surfing, calendar, address book, you name it. I was sending and receiving email from the back of a taxi in San Diego and catching up on the news and forecast while getting my hair cut. Michele and CC are absolute Blackberry addicts. Here they are, responding to emails and checking Web pages while waiting to go into a show in Las Vegas.

If I didn't already have a watch I really liked (and if they weren't so darned ugly), I would want one of the new WristNet Fossil watches that feature MicrosoftDirect. It features weather conditions and forecasts, late breaking news, sports scores, your personalized to-do list and calendar. Oh, and it also tells time. Very cool, but first generation at this point. WristNet
I recently got an ambient orb for my office. It has a wireless connection to some mothership somewhere that feeds it data throughout the day and allows it to change color to reflect movement of an index. Right now, I've got it set up to reflect how the stock market is doing -- which means it is looking orange, moving to red as I write this (you can also have it glow to the beat of your personal portfolio), but I'm working on getting it configured so that its colors will indicate the number of hits BOL is receiving at that point in time. How cool is that?!
Here, the Blackberry Nuts are at it again. This time in Miami.
