Just a Tech Note; while speaking at the ABA Compliance Conference last week on auditing Websites for compliance, I received notice of a revision to the FFIEC Information Technology Examination Handbook. Ken Baebel was speaking first and as I was waiting my turn I received the notice over my BlackBerry. I was able to share that issuance with the students on the spot. How is that for great timing!

Converting PDFs to Word
If you have ever attempted to copy and paste from a 3 column Federal Register document in PDF format, you know that the copy function doesn't choose a slice within a single column; it instead extends horizontally across all three columns, leading to a ton of clean-up when you get it pasted into Word. Suffer no more! There's a software program out there for under fifty bucks called PDF Converter for Microsoft Word that makes ends those headaches. The software is by ScanSoft. The way it works is that you go to word, choose Open, make sure "All Files" is selected in the drop down menu, then start to open the PDF file you want to convert. ScanSoft launches automatically and does the conversion for you! Way cool.
