Hi-Tech Crime Fighting
Here are a couple of success stories for those carrying and losing hi-tech gear whether it is through loss or theft.
Alison DeLauzon was on vacation in Florida when she lost her camera. All her pictures and videos of this vacation were gone, plus the value of the camera. But Alison had a memory card in her camera that has built in wireless capabilities. The idea is that photos automatically upload to Allison's computer. The thieves who stole her camera apparently passed by a wireless router with the same factory default settings (not changing your settings is usually a bad idea, but it worked out well here) as Allisons and her photos were on her computer. And the bonus was that pictures of the thieves were too. There was enough information to track down the thieves who worked at a restaurant Allison had visited.

In a similar story Kait Duplaga had her laptop stolen from her apartment. Flat-screen TVs, iPods and more were also taken. But Kait had a good laptop and she knows how to use it. Kait works at an Apple Store. She accessed the iSight and the built in camera on her laptop showed the thieves live. One of them was recognized from having attended a party at the apartment a few weeks earlier.
