Equal Housing Logo - What is it?
by Andy Zavoina, BOL Guru Guru Bio
Question: When we advertise deposit accounts we always state "Member FDIC" and when we advertise loans we always state "Equal Housing Lender", but I wonder if we need the FDIC logo or the house with the equal sign?
Answer: For deposit accounts, "Member FDIC" is sufficient without the FDIC symbol. These rules are defined in the FDIC advertising rules. For your home loan related advertisements, if the Equal Housing Lender logo is required, the logo itself consists of the house symbol plus the appropriate text. Sample logos are available form BOL. This disclosure has different requirements based on who your primary regulator is. It really can't be used too much so you are safe using it on all loan ads. On those where it is not required, using the text without the house symbol isn't a violation because it isn't required any way. On housing related ads, use the complete logo.
