Question: Marketing feels as though statement stuffer after statement stuffer is not being read. They would like to add some of the messages to the outside of the envelope. It may be restated inside as well. Would this be a problem?
Answer: It certainly could be. The privacy regs prevent you from disclosing that a person has an account with you. Check out the May 1, 2009 blog post in the BOL Blog. While this wasn't an envelope, it was a call, it is the same thing if your message reveals that there is an account relationship.
Any statements on the outside would have to be generic, such as "open immediately" or "dated materials inside" or "our NOW accounts pay you interest" or some type of marketing message that applies to non-customers as well as customers. "Switch this checking to a Money Market and earn interest" would be an inappropriate message.
