Pictures of Employees on Web Site
Answer by Andy Zavoina and Richard Insley, BOL Gurus
Guru BIOS

Question: The bank's Marketing Department is updating the Bank's Web site and is considering including pictures of bank officers (i.e. branch managers, lenders, etc.) on the Web site. I have not seen any other bank that does this. Are there security reasons why pictures of bank officers should not be placed on the Web site?

Answer by Andy Zavoina:
It is really a personal choice. Some banks want that "personal touch" and visibility so they will put employee/officer pictures on a site.

From a security standpoint, it is one more thing that adds a layer of insecurity as you now openly publicize who in the bank is "important" and a good kidnapping candidate.

I have seen more small banks advertise pictures of their personal bankers than large banks.

Answer by Richard Insley:
Pictures of smiling employee faces create some risk, but pictures plus names create more. Using former bank executive Andy Zavoina as an example, a kidnap/extortion specialist would be only a few clicks away from a residential address (and map), phone number, and pictures and names of spouse and kids.
