New Executive Order on Syria; Syrian Designations

On Thursday, August 18, Treasury announced that President Obama had signed an Executive Order imposing additional sanctions against the Government of Syria, freezing any assets of the Government of Syria in the United States and banning the importation into the United States of petroleum or petroleum products of Syrian origin. OFAC also announced that it had issued six general licenses related to Syria. BOL’s OFAC Sanctions Matrix has been updated to reflect the addition of the new Order and licenses. In addition, Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control designated five petroleum industry-related entities as Government of Syria entities, adding them to the SDN list.
