Documents Destruction Provider
Answer by Mary Beth Guard, BOL Guru Guru BIOS
Question: We are looking for a documents destruction firm to shred sensitive material monthly. I would like
some information in what to look for and require in a contract with the provider.
Answer: Look for references and the processes they use. Are they doing it on-site or off-site? They should
provide you with a certificate of destruction and the contract should allow you to inspect the process at any time as verification that they are doing the task as contracted for. This includes unannounced inspections. You should also have them supply containers
that lock within all areas you desire. Plus, if the sensitive information relates to customers, you must have them sign a contractual
provision under which they agree to implement and maintain an information security program designed to meet the objectives
of the interagency guidelines on safeguarding customer information.
