CTR Information on Absent Account Owner

Question: When a husband makes a cash deposit over $10,000 into a joint account and the wife is not present, is it mandatory that we have the wife's information and place on the CTR under Section A?
Answer: You need to ask and to look to your account records to supply the information. It would not be unusual for the husband not to know his wife's social security number (let's not even discuss whether he knows her date of birth, folks!), so you may have to leave that little piece of information out if the account's been open for a long time, you don't have it on your files, and you can't obtain it from the husband or reach the wife to get it.
