IRA Distribution is Part of a Divorce Settlement
Answer by Randy Carey, BOL Guru Guru Bios
Question: If an IRA distribution is required to be given in a divorce settlement, can the recipient of the distribution roll that money into an IRA account from themselves similar to a death distribution? The IRA owner is over 59 ½ and the recipient is 42.
Answer: You should refer to IRS Publication 590. Look for "Transfers Incident To Divorce" and methods of transfer.
