Copying Customer’s US Treasury Checks
Answer by John Burnett, BOL Guru Guru Bio
Question: We have always taken the position that we do not make copies of US Treasury checks for customers. Are there rules or regulations governing this, so that we can back our position?
Answer: I'm not aware of any prohibition in the law, and Treasury checks, like all others, are routinely being converted to images for clearing in today's check clearing environment. Of course it remains illegal to fraudulently counterfeit a check, including a Treasury check, but I see no problem with making copies for record keeping purposes.
