Record Retention Requirements
by Ken Golliher and Richard Insley, BOL Gurus

QUESTION: Is there a standard retention manual for bank records or is it left to the individual state?

ANSWER by Ken Golliher:
BIO AND CONTACT INFO
Although there is a substantial core of federal requirements, the requirements of the particular state must be incorporated, even if you are a national bank. Check with your state's bankers association and department of banking as the most likely resources. Also, please take a look at Bankers Tools for a sample schedule contributed by one user and Bankers Threads for prior discussions on the topic.

ANSWER by Richard Insley:
BIO AND CONTACT INFO
State bankers associations normally publish a record retention manual. Check your SBA's website to see if it offers one for sale.
