Advance Prep Needed for Emergency Facilities
by Mary Beth Guard, BOL Guru

When a tornado recently demolished an entire bank branch building, the bank's owners were able to quickly arrange for a temporary mobile facility to be put into place. They dealt with a highly reputable national supplier and obtained a fully-outfitted mobile unit that featured just the right layout, along with security, computer wiring, a telephone system, and everything else they might need during the period of reconstruction of their permanent facility.

One problem, however. Since they had not contracted in advance for this service, the supplier was unable to do advance work to ensure familiarity with local code requirements. Instead of being back up and running within 24-48 hours, the bank is now mired in red tape and paperwork which could have largely been avoided if the planning - and contracting with the emergency facility supplier - had been done in advance.
