Teller Time Study Tools

Want to do a teller time study in your institution? Perhaps determine how many transactions a branch does per hour, or get a better idea of the expected number of transactions per teller, or other information?

BOL User Bill Dean (you'll recognize him posting on Bankers' Threads as "wpdcad") has agreed to share with BOL what his bank has done, and they've been monitoring their transactions per teller for years and averaging by branch and overall for the bank to obtain a daily standard.

Bill has supplied two spreadsheets (links below). The first is a Teller Hourly Transaction Record Sheet. It's used to record the transactions. The second is a calculation and graph set.

Sheet One has the hourly transaction totals for each hour, Monday through Satursday. The column #FTE is the Full Time Equivalent tellers needed. The formula must take into acocunt if the current month has 3, 4, or 5 Mondays, Tuesdays, etc. (For example, in August, 2001, there were four Mondays = 112 transactions for a full hour and 56 for the 1/2 hour of operation from 5:00-5:30. That makes for the goal of 28 transactions per hour per teller for a combined lobby and drive-up teller. The other sheets, 2 through 7, are the graphs for Monday through Saturday.

To download the spreadsheets, click on the links with your right mouse button and save each one to your hard drive or network.
