Grilled & Stuffed Blue Cheese Pears Fire up the grill! You'll want the heat under the pears to be on low, but the heat in the overall grill should be about 350. Can you do these in the oven? Probably, but I haven't tried it that way. Start with... Pears -- fresh and ripe Filling Crumbled blue cheese Chopped Craisins (those little dried cranberry things) or Raisins Chopped salted mixed nuts Garnish Chopped chives The amount you use of the above ingredients is governed by personal taste. Alter the proportions to suit your fancy. The recipe can be scaled down to a single pear or up to a big bunch of pears -- whatever you need for the occasion. Peel the pears. Cut them in half horizontally. Trim off the stem and the root end. Slice a small amount off the rounded back to allow the pear half to sit flat. Spray with olive oil Pam (especially the bottom) or drizzle a little olive oil over the pears. Using a spoon or melon baller, scoop out the seed area in the center to form a nice little hollow area. Fill it with a mounded heap of the blue cheese mixture. Sprinkle chopped chives on top. (Optional) Place on the hot grill. Grill for approximately 30 minutes. These make a beautiful presentation and go well with just about any type of meal, from steak to quiche. They're great with Jackie's Onion Pie. Posted by Mary Beth Guard |
