Jim Bedsole Named Most Valuable Guru for July

Each month at BOL, we recognize the guru selected from last month's list of guru-contributed articles and answers most frequently referred by our readers, using the "Email this Article" feature found on all the pages on the site.

We are pleased to present this month's "Most Valuable Guru" award to long-time BOL Guru Jim Bedsole, CRCM, Chief Risk Officer for Tidelands Bank, a community bank located in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Jim has over 20 years of experience managing regulatory compliance and auditing programs. He is a nationally recognized speaker and author on the topics of compliance, auditing, risk management and more. His knowledge and expertise in these areas is evidenced by his growing popularity as a BOL Guru. One of Jim's Q&A articles on Overdraft Protection featured in the Compliance section of BankersOnline was one of the top three articles most frequently referred by our readers last month, using the "Email this Article" feature.

Congratulations, Jim! Welcome to our list of Most Valuable Gurus.

Three new tools were added to the Banker Tools section during June.

  • BOL user SkiDoo learned quickly that you want to have a procedure in place when you get your next Servicemembers Civil Relief Act request. She has contributed her Processing Checklist and Letter Series so that if you are developing your process, you can start way above boot camp level.

  • BOL user Kaybee saw several inquiries about reviewing a SAS 70 report. While her company, Enterprise Financial Consulting often uses this SAS 70 Type II Checklist in conjunction with SOX reviews, it isn't restricted to that.

  • Compliance is anything but routine. Being told you will have a new branch soon can really shake up your day. If you have been through this you'll understand why starting with a blank sheet of paper is hard. So that you can get a headstart when this happens to you, Ginger Batson and her bank, First National Bank of Muskogee, have supplied BOL with this New Branch Checklist. Divided into a checklist of duties to manage the new branch being built, signage required and supplies that will be necessary to function, you'll surely find these three documents helpful when you are told about expansion. While Ginger's bank is a national bank, anyone with a new branch can use these lists as a great starting point and build your own customized list from here.
  • We're continually adding to the offerings in the BOL Banker Store product line. Here are some we've added during the month.

    Something Special
Tell your special loved one to remember that she has Guardian Angels watching over her.
Inspired by the famous painting by Raphael, the cherubs featured on these earrings are made of sterling silver. They come, beautifully packaged, in a lined, black leather-like gift box.

For a really special gift, get her the whole set: there is a Silver Guardian Angel Necklace that matches these earrings.
