Two new categories of suspicious activity are included in the version of the Suspicious Activity Report form which took effect July 1, 2003: Terrorist Financing and Identity Theft. Previous editions of the SAR form will not be accepted after December 31, 2003.
Not only should you be sure your institution is using the correct version of the form, you should also ensure that anyone within your institution who may be completing a SAR has received information about the two new categories of suspicious activity and understands the circumstances under which category would be used.
FinCEN has also posted a downloadable copy of SAR Software Version 5.0 for Windows on its Web site, along with instructions necessary to obtain a unique Transmittal Code Number. You must obtain the transmittal number in order to use the software.
