Noncustomer Refuses to Provide SSN
Answer by Randy Carey, BOL Guru Guru Bios
Question: Regarding BSA, what are the bank options if a non-customer wants to cash a large on us cashier’s check, but refuses to provide a social security number?
Answer: Tell him that he is free to try and cash it somewhere else if it is over $10,000. If he wants cash over $10,000, then you have reporting to do. The other option is to open an account, but of course you need his SSN for that too.
