Timely Information given to Security Officer
Answers by Dana Turner, BOL Guru Guru Bio
Question: Our Security manager often doesn't get notified of a security event for days or weeks. By the time she gets information, the event is old news if she gets the news at all. How can we get information about security-related issues to our Security Manager in a timely way?
Answer: Your Security Manager really does need timely information. Sending memos is outdated but sending an email works well. Ask your IS Manager to create an on-line form that any employee can complete and send to the Security Manager for disposition. This form should be used to report ANY security-related information that may require an investigation, for example:
A customer "slips-and-falls" in the institution's lobby;
A "fender-bender" occurs in the institution's parking lot, particularly if the collision involves an institution vehicle;
An employee is believed to be using alcohol or drugs at work;
An employee who talks constantly about financial problems; or
An employee who tells a co-worker that she is a victim of domestic violence.
