Scrubbing Computers to Give Away
Answer by Richard Insley and Andy Zavoina, BOL Gurus
Guru BIOS

Question: We are in the process of updating many of our office computers. The decision was made to donate/give away the old computers. What is the best way to "scrub" the harddrives?

Answer by Richard Insley:
A large ball-peen hammer is very effective.

Answer by Andy Zavoina:
BCWipe is a program I have heard recommended in the past. I have not used used it myself but it comes with good recommendations. Certainly there are others:
Analog X SuperShredder and LSoft Active KillDisk to name just 2 more.

If you want complete security, Richard's comment is not far from the truth, but a drill also does good work.

When you donate them, don't forget the power cords and original software. These are often left out.
