Bicycle Bandit Redux John S. Burnett, Associate Editor
In a case that is eerily reminiscent of last month's Security Spotlight report on the demise of one "Bicycle Bandit," the FBI announced early this month that it had in custody yet another two-wheeling robbery suspect. This time the heists were at three TD Banknorth branches in Milford, Troy and Keene, New Hampshire.
Robert Clark and his wife Leslie were arrested by New Hampshire State Police after they fled from a traffic stop on September 27. Leslie Clark is not a suspect in the robberies, according to U.S. Attorney Jennifer Davis.
According to an FBI arrest affidavit, Robert Clark was apprehended and hospitalized following a collision with several police cruisers that ended his flight from the traffic stop. His description matched those given by tellers in the three robberies. Clark has admitted to the three holdups, and said that he had hidden the loot in a Tupperware container buried in an acquaintance's yard, according to the affidavit.
After each of the robberies, the robber fled the scene on a bicycle, according to Milford Police Chief Fred Douglas. Chief Douglas suggested that another mode of transportation was waiting nearby.
