Training Thwarts Robbery in Georgia John S. Burnett, Associate Editor
Tony Alan Bell
Recent robbery training paid off for Ameris Bank in Kingsland, Georgia, on Wednesday, January 9. Within minutes of a holdup there, police stopped the suspected getaway car as it approached nearby Interstate 95. Tony Alan Bell, who matched the description of the man who robbed the bank office, was behind the wheel of the vehicle, which matched witnesses' descriptions of the car that was seen leaving the scene.
Bell, 46, was stopped on the ramp to I-95 South, apparently headed for home in St. Augustine, Florida.
Kingsland Police Chief Darryl Griffis said that his department had conducted recent robbery training sessions at area banks, and that the training had enabled witnesses at the Ameris office to provide accurate descriptions of both the robber and the getaway vehicle. According to Griffis, the training for banking staff "helps them through dangerous situations and facilitates their safety."
