IT Exam Guidance - Retail Payment Systems

The FFIEC has now released the seventh booklet in a series as part of its FFIEC IT Examination Handbook. The most recent release is Retail Payment Systems.

Each of the booklets can be accessed through the FFIEC InfoBase on Information Technology, which includes not only the IT bookletts, but a Resources page with a list of resources related to the booklet topics, a Presentations page (which offers audio and printed version s of presentation, with a general presentation and an introductory presentation on each IT exam booklet), as well as a glossary.

The new 91-page retail payment Systems booklet provides guidance to examiners, financial institutions, and technology service providers on identifying and controlling information technology-related risks associated with retail payment systems and related banking activities. It begins with a Retail Payment Systems overview, then discusses payment instruments, clearing and settlement, including check-based payments, card-based electronic payments, ACH, and other electronic payments, then focuses on retail payment systems risk management.
